Starting 1st of July 2026, the payment method available in the e‑charge app will be updated. Payment via Electronic Wallet will be replaced by a modern and secure mechanism: payment by pre‑authorization. This update is part of our efforts to simplify the charging experience.
What does payment by pre‑authorization mean?
Payment by pre‑authorization involves:
- selecting a predefined amount directly in the app before starting a charging session;
- pre-authorizing (temporarily blocking) this amount on your bank card;
- paying only for the energy actually consumed, immediately after the session ends.
Minimum pre‑authorized amounts
- 30 LEI (VAT included) for AC charging within the e-charge Network and roaming networks within Partner Networks
- 70 LEI (VAT included) for DC charging within the e-charge Network and roaming networks within Partner Networks
Maximum pre‑authorized amounts
- 300 LEI (VAT included) for AC, DC charging within the e-charge Network and roaming networks within Partner Networks
What changes for you?
Starting 1 July 2026, the Electronic Wallet will no longer be available. All future charging sessions will be carried out exclusively via the pre-authorization mechanism.
If you have available funds in your Electronic Wallet, we recommend using them before this date.
How will the transition take place?
The payment system update will take place during the night of 1st of July 2026, between 00:01 and 00:30.
During this time, some charging stations may be temporarily unavailable. If you experience any issues, please contact us at suport@e-charge.ro or +40 31 640 06 40
Is re-authentication required?
No, it is not required. Only clients who did not update their e‑charge app to the latest version will need to update it and will be requested to re‑authenticate using their username and password.
As actions, you will need to:
- update the e‑charge app from Google Play or the App Store;
- accept the updated Terms and Conditions;
- enter the bank card details used for pre‑authorization (previously saved cards cannot be transferred automatically).
Can I still use the e-charge (RFID) card after 1st of July 2026?
No, RFID Cards cannot be used any more, as starting with 1st of July 2026, the new pre‑authorization payment method requires exclusive use of the e‑charge mobile app to initiate charging sessions.
For individual customers
e‑charge (RFID) cards issued to individuals and previously used together with the Electronic Wallet will be deactivated starting 1st of July 2026 and will no longer be usable for accessing charging stations within the e‑charge Network or Partner Networks.
Charging will be possible only via the e‑charge mobile app, using payment by pre‑authorization.
For business customers
RFID cards will no longer be usable by B2B customers who previously used the Electronic Wallet and who will move to payment by pre‑authorization. For B2B customers with end‑of‑month billing, RFID cards remain valid and can continue to be used, in accordance with applicable contractual terms.
What happens to the remaining balance in your Electronic Wallet?
Any unused amounts up to 30 June 2026 (inclusive) will be automatically transferred as available balance within the new payment mechanism, after accepting the updated Terms and Conditions in the app.
This balance will be used first, until depleted. Afterwards, charging sessions will be paid via pre‑authorization.
If there are outstanding amounts in your account, they must be settled before 1st of July 2026.
What should you do if you do not agree with the changes?
If you do not wish to continue the contractual relationship after these updates, you may terminate it within 14 calendar days from receiving the notification, starting 8th of June 2026, by sending an email to suport@e-charge.ro or office@e-charge.ro.
Any remaining Electronic Wallet balance will be refunded within 15 working days, following internal checks and settlement of any outstanding amounts.
